Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Murals & More is excited to announce the installation of Passing Through, a new mural by local artist Sadya inside the Ground Transportation Center (GTC), located Downtown Cedar Rapids. The general public is welcome to attend a public unveiling of the mural on Wednesday September 10, at 12:30 p.m. in the GTC at 450 First Street SE.
Passing Through is a stylistic rendering of a map of Cedar Rapids with iconic landmarks and geese highlighted. The mural is made with acrylic paint and covers two walls inside.
“To pass through is to move and experience time. The people pass through the buses, the buses pass through the city, and the city passes through the years alongside its people. We are always just passing through,” said Sayda. “We are always just passing through – experiencing and practicing impermanence. Constantly moving, even without motion, turns inaction to action.”
This mural was created with generous support from David Maier & Matt McGrane, in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Public Arts Commission.
“Equitable access to the arts and supporting local creatives is a passion of ours,” said Maier. “We are thrilled to help bring public art to the GTC and are truly wowed by Sadya’s brilliant mural.”
