In partnership with Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers’ Market, The Crunch Berry Run begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2022, starting and ending at the 2nd Ave Bridge in Downtown Cedar Rapids. You will be covered in environmentally-friendly colored powder as you run or walk the route, with fun surprises all along the way!
The party continues after crossing the finish line on the 2nd Ave Bridge until 11:00 AM with music, family-friendly activities, and of course, Crunch Berries!
This fun run/walk is not timed and is appropriate for people of all ages and athletic abilities.
The Crunch Berry Run is a fundraiser for Murals & More. All proceeds from this event go to support Murals & More’s mission to cultivate public art in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Fun for all ages! Strollers and wagons are welcome, just remember anything you bring on the route will be doused in color.
Go as far as you’d like on the 5k route. You may want to walk a mile, jog the full 5K, or anything in-between. Great! You can turn around on the route whenever you’d like.
This is a non-competitive event appropriate for people of all ages and abilities. The route includes places to pause to enjoy an interesting experience.

Gather at the stage on the 2nd Ave Bridge, downtown Cedar Rapids, for the start of the Crunch Berry Run, to get you in Crunch Berry spirit and let the festivities begin! The program will feature Eric and Clare as our emcees, the official Crunch Berry Day proclamation by Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell, and a featured performance by Miss Christine!
Run/walk begins
Everybody will take off from the 2nd Ave Bridge around 9:20 AM. Those running will start in the front, with those walking right behind them. You can run or walk as far as you would like, for a maximum total distance of up to approximately a 5K (just over 3 miles). The route ends right back on the 2nd Ave Bridge.
The fun continues!
Who’s hungry for some Crunch Berries? Dig in to a bowl of Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berry Cereal after you’ve crossed the finish line. Look forward to music, more colored powder, sweet treats, a photo op with Cap’n Crunch himself, and other family-friendly activities.
The route starts and ends on the 2nd Ave Bridge, downtown Cedar Rapids (Mays Island).
Since it’s not a race, you can go right (east) or left (west) on the route to start. Walk or run through both sides to get the full experience! Going through the entire route will take you approximately a 5K (3.1 miles). Volunteers and signage will direct you along the way, but remember, you may turn around at any point to go the distance that is right for you.
The route is very flat, with some minor hills on the east side of the river along the trail under 8th Ave SE.
Portable restrooms will be positioned on the 2nd Ave Bridge and at the SE turnaround point.
Water will be available at each turnaround point.

Wear your event wristband (required), event t-shirt or a white t-shirt, and/or clothing you are okay with potentially being stained from the colored powder (it may be difficult to remove). Don’t bring anything with you that you don’t want to risk potentially coming in contact with colored powder, which may stain certain types of fabrics.

Run or walk through both sides to do the entire route (approximately a 5K or 3.1 miles). Here’s a link to an interactive Google map with all the event features.
Nope! This event is designed to be a fun, interactive run/walk, so there will be no official race clock or timer. Have fun! Those who want to track their time are encouraged to do so themselves. There will be no awards or results kept of participant’s time.
Yes! Children are welcome. Children age four and under may accompany a paid adult at no additional charge, or they can register to get the goodies in the registration packet. A non-registered child will not receive a participant packet. Children age five and above must register. Children may be in a stroller or wagon accompanied by an adult, just remember anything you take along the course will be doused in color!
The color used in this event is water soluble and environmentally friendly. The color may stain fabrics and may require multiple washes to remove. It may also take a couple washes to remove all the colored powder from skin and hair. Wear your race t-shirt for the event and other clothes that you are okay with potentially being stained by the colored powder.
The short answer is yes, but only if you feel very, very confident they will do well in this environment. If you are unsure, please leave them at home. We have adopted the same policy as the farmers’ market. Please also consider that your pet will encounter the colored powder. We will be instructing our volunteers to avoid intentionally dousing pets with the colored powder, but it will certainly be on and around them since the colored powder will be sprayed at you.
Registration may be canceled on or before 9/2/2022 (15 days before the event) and a refund of the registration cost (minus event registration processing fees) will be issued to the original method of payment. There is no refund for registration cancellation after 9/2/2022.
